Some people can not be out to their family

i-sauntered-vaguely-downwards:

About a whole shit ton of things.

Some people need to hide their identity, or parts of themselves from their family.

Because it is unsafe. Because they risk too much. Because they can not deal with the fallout.

THAT IS NOT A FAILING ON THEIR PART!

That is a failing on the part of their family.

My nickname for Thorin Oakenshield is ‘Albrecht Durin’ and I think it’s pretty obvious why.

…art historians are nerds, okay.

I CAN’T STOP LAUGHING AND THIS IS THE BEST THING I’VE SEEN ALL DAY OKAY???

BAM!

Although it’s not going to go anywhere if I can’t keep the damn game from crashing on me constantly.

I GOT THE GAME WORKING. If you’re at all interested in my in-character Skyrim ramblings, take a look.

What I expected today: To happily play hours and hours of Skyrim and enjoy my life.

What happened today: I’ve spent hours and hours in the first fifteen minutes of the game because it keeps crashing out on me.

What mod is doing this and how do I stop it??? :/ I have TOO MANY to do them one by one.

Contemplating an IC journal for my Skyrim character… Anyone interested in this? Mostly going to be doing it for my own amusement but also as an excuse to learn about the lore, which I currently don’t know a lot about. It’s not going to be exactly lore-friendly though since I have a ton of mods, more like an AU fan thingy.

Hmmm, I’ll make it anyway and update it for my own amusement.

Started a new Skyrim save!

And I’m really excited about it. He’s a Bosmer archer-mage, one of my old TES standards. His standard personality is perpetually done, tired of civilization, hunter-hermit who’s gone into premature recluse status despite being far too young for it. He prowls around hunting, tending his house, and growling at people who want him to adventure for them. He likes animals more than people.

So, naturally, in Skyrim I’ve made him a Forsworn-sympathizing Hircine-honoring werewolf who smuggles resources across the borders to his adopted cause, summons spriggans and creepy shit with magic, and is generally a badass. And when he joins the Civil War questline, it’ll be going undercover for the chance to serve his cause. I mean… both the sides have issues anyway, and I’d rather be Forsworn because Celtic-themed freedom fighters with antlered armor and creepy magic. Thus, the answer is roleplay. Also I found a mod that lets me be a bard, so I’m gonna be a celt-themed wood elf archer-mage druid bard who assassinates people in the name of freedom/revenge and can turn into a wolf monster who feeds on the flesh of his victims what isn’t cool about that?!??

I’M SO EXCITED.

The result of today’s Daily Doodle. I have no idea who this is but he reminds me of this RPG concept I had a few years ago. Maybe I’ll mess around with this universe a bit. It’s a future-Earth mostly-water-world setting with nanotech and stuff.

This photo always cheers me up a bit. It’s a front-page article from 1955 about Christine Jorgensen, one of the first women to have gender-affirming surgery.
Since the text is a bit small and I couldn’t find a larger copy, here’s what the small blurb says:
A World of a Difference

George W. Jorgensen, Jr., son of a Bronx carpenter, served in the Army for two years and was given honorable discharge in 1946. Now George is no more. After six operations, Jorgensen’s sex has been changed and today she is a striking woman, working as a photographer in Denmark. Parents were informed of the big change in a letter Christine (that’s her new name) sent to them recently.

This article is 58 years old, and it’s more respectful of Christine’s pronoun and name than some publications are today. It makes me happy to see a newspaper be respectful of a trans person.
YES BECAUSE WE ARE PEOPLE TOO, imagine that.

Ancient cranial surgery: bioarchaeologist studies trepanation

archaeologicalnews:

Cranial surgery is tricky business, even under 21st-century conditions (think aseptic environment, specialized surgical instruments and copious amounts of pain medication both during and afterward).

However, evidence shows that healers in Peru practiced trepanation—a surgical procedure that…

One more place I need to visit before I die. I’m determined to go here by my 35th birthday, dammit. This is amazing.

The big secret is Knowth and Newgrange are only the passage tombs the tourist board promotes so if you do come over youd have a lot to see.

There are LOADS of passage tombs around Ireland that you can get to by car and because theres no attempt to rennovate them to make them marketable its like a time machine has transported you back to the stone age.

With the added bonus of there still being wifi etc near by and a camera phone to hand to take selfies for the internet haha
